Project Summary

Co-designing the ambulance for the future.

The Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) has seen a steady shift in service demand, from an emergency focus to a more complex variety of demands typically more closely aligned with primary, community and social care services. A major overhaul of the technical specifications for the design of ambulances was due to come into effect in 2016. This provided an opportunity to take a step back and consider how the needs of the public and SAS staff have changed, and to empower these groups in the design of an ambulance fit for both current and future demands. The purpose of this project was to investigate these changing demands and to analyse the impact they will have on the technology the ambulance service will use in the future.
