Year 1 Product Design have completed ‘1+1=3’, a one-week project which asked students to create an object to use at their desk for the duration of their time at GSA by fusing two ‘found’ (used / worn / salvaged / swapped) objects. The project introduced students to the concept of semantics and encouraged them to think about how to sustainably reuse existing objects to create something new which would be of personal value to them. As part of the project they also created ‘Semantic Dialogues’ which were conversations that conceptually explored the relationship between the form language of their original objects and how they had brought these two together to become a new object.
